Dashu Township was merged in July 2004 by the former Dashu Township, Qinglian Township, Meizi Township and Troughwood Township, with three communities under the jurisdiction of Shanyangping, Maiping and Xinmin, and five villages, Xincun, Songlin, Dawei, Center and Mugan, which are located in the northwestern part of the county, 55 kilometers away from the county. During the construction of the Dadu River Waterfall Gully Hydropower Station, tens of thousands of residents in and around Dashu migrated, thus reducing the population to more than 10,000 people.
