Fengdu County is located in the upper reaches of Yangtze River and the geographic center of Chongqing, close to the metropolis, deep in the Three Gorges and backed by Wuling, which is the linkage point of "integrating into the main city and linking the two clusters", and the primary undertaking place of the "overflow effect" of the main city metropolitan area. Fengdu is 120 kilometers away from the main city of Chongqing, about 90 minutes by highway and 50 minutes by railroad. The county covers an area of 2,901 square kilometers, with 30 townships (streets) under its jurisdiction. It is one of the first counties open to the outside world and a national excellent tourist city, national garden county, and national health county.At the end of 2022, Fengdu County had a resident population of 553,000, with an urbanization rate of 51.03%.
