Gaotong Town, belonging to Fushan District, Yantai City, Shandong Province, is located in the western part of Fushan District, Yantai City, bordering with Fuxin Street and Donghall Street in the east, neighboring Zhanggezhuang Town in the southeast, Qixia City in the south and west, Penglai District in the northwest, and Yantai Economic and Technological Development Zone in the north, with an administrative area of 87.34 square kilometers. As of the end of 2019, Gaotong Town has a household population of 26,234.
During the Ming and Qing dynasties, the territory belonged to Hukuo Society, Yijing Society, and Dujiazhuang Society of Southwest Fort; in April 1984, Gaotong Commune was abolished and Gaotong Town was established; in December 2000, 25 villages of Donghall Town, and 4 villages of Daguan Village, Heping Village, Jutun Village, and Lujiagou of Fuxin Street were merged into the area; and in December 2011, 25 villages of Gaotong Town were transferred to Donghall Street. As of June 2020, Gaotong Town has 41 administrative villages under its jurisdiction, and the town's people's government is located in Gaotong North Village.
