Park Overview
The Yantai Economic and Technological Development Zone is situated on the coast of the Yellow Sea on the Shandong Peninsula in China, at 37° north latitude and 121° east longitude. It lies across the sea from Beijing and Dalian to the north, is connected by land to Shanghai and Qingdao to the south, and is separated from South Korea and Japan by a narrow strip of water to the east. It is a key growth hub within the Bohai Rim Economic Zone, a priority development area for China in the 21st century.Established in October 1984 with the approval of the State Council, the Yantai Economic and Technological Development Zone—the core of the new district—is one of the first 14 national-level development zones in China.
The Yantai Economic and Technological Development Zone comprises the sub-districts of Fulai Mountain, Guxian, Daijia, and Bajiao, with a permanent population of 457,000. The zone currently hosts 85,000 market entities, 470 industrial enterprises above designated size, 727 high-tech enterprises, and 14 listed companies. The “Two Zones and Two Corridors”—the Bajiaowan Central Innovation Zone, the Huangshiwan Marine Economy Zone, the Huancishan International Research Corridor, and the Huandongdao International Science and Education Corridor—are gaining full momentum. They have attracted a number of science and education bases, including the Shandong Provincial Laboratory for Advanced Materials and Green Manufacturing in Yantai and the Yantai Research Institute of Harbin Engineering University, with the total number of professionals exceeding 220,000.
With the goal of “building a modern coastal new district for Yantai,” the Yantai Economic and Technological Development Zone is coordinating the advancement of “urban renewal in the east, new city construction in the center, and rural revitalization in the west.” It is focusing on developing five major clusters—Fulai Mountain, Guxian, Bajiao, Daijia, and Chaoshui—and is making every effort to achieve breakthroughs in ten key projects to accelerate the construction of a pilot demonstration zone for green, low-carbon, and high-quality development.
