Dongping County, belonging to Tai'an City, Shandong Province, is located in the southwest of Lu, west of Tai'an City. It borders Feicheng City in the east, Wenshang County and Liangshan County of Jining City in the south, Dong'a County and Yanggu County of Liaocheng City in the west across the Yellow River, Taizen County of Puyang City in Henan Province, and Pingyin County of Jinan City in the north. It has a total area of 1,343 square kilometers. As of June 2023, Dongping County has 3 streets, 9 towns and 2 townships under its jurisdiction. As of the end of 2022, Dongping County had a total population of 800,000 people.
Dongping County has a long history, with the confluence of the Yellow River, the Grand Canal and the Dawen River, and the intermingling of the Dawenkou culture, religious culture, celebrity culture, fishermen's culture, and folk culture, and the Daicun Dam, the "Heart of Canal", has been listed as a world cultural heritage. Dongping is the birthplace of Water Margin Culture. There are more than 400 natural and humanistic landscapes in the county, including 5 national scenic spots and attractions. Dongping Lake is the second largest freshwater lake in Shandong Province, an important hub of the National South-to-North Water Diversion Project, and the only remaining water area of the "Eight Hundred Miles of Water Pools".
