Zitong County, belonging to Mianyang City, Sichuan Province, is located in the northeast of Mianyang City, between longitude 104°57′16″-105°27′35″E and latitude 31°25′27″-31°51′43″N, with a width of about 35 kilometers from east to west and a length of about 52.5 kilometers from north to south, and a total area of 1443.92 square kilometers. As of October 2022, Zitong County has 15 towns and 1 township under its jurisdiction. As of the end of 2022, Zitong County had a total household population of 365,300.
Since ancient times, Zitong County has been known as "the township where all the grains are suitable and the forests and silkworms are plentiful", and was named after "leaning on Zilin in the east and resting on Tongshui in the west". Since the twenty-second year of King Zhaoxiang of Qin (285 years ago), King Zhaoxiang of Qin set up the county, which has a history of more than 2,300 years, and has nurtured a rich and diversified culture of the Qin and Han Dynasties, the Three Kingdoms, the Han and Tang Dynasties, the culture of Wenchang, the red culture, and the culture of traditional Chinese medicine represented by the national medical saint Pu Fuzhou. There are three national key cultural relics protection units in Zitong County, namely, the Great Temple on Qiqu Mountain, Liye Que on Changqing Mountain, and Thousand Buddha Rock Grottoes on Wolong Mountain.
In 2022, Zitong County will realize a gross domestic product (GDP) of 17.705 billion yuan, of which the added value of the primary industry will be 3.750 billion yuan, the added value of the secondary industry will be 5.902 billion yuan, and the added value of the tertiary industry will be 8.054 billion yuan.
