Linghai City, a county-level city under the jurisdiction of Liaoning Province, administered by Jinzhou City, is located in the southwest of Liaoning Province and the south of Jinzhou City, at the throat of the western Liaoning Corridor, with a continental climate in the north-temperate monsoon zone, adjoining 10 districts and counties (municipalities), with a total area of 2,495 square kilometers. As of October 2022, Linghai City is governed by 3 streets, 15 towns, 2 townships, and 1 other township-level unit. According to the seventh census, as of 00:00 on November 1, 2020, the resident population of Linghai City was 412,513 people.
Linghai City was named after the characters for "Ling" and "Hai" because its seat is located on the Daling River and the area is bordered by Bohai Bay to the south. In the first year of Kangxi in the Qing Dynasty (1662), Jinzhou was changed to Jin County, which belonged to Fengtian Province; in the 18th year of the Republic of China (1929), it belonged to Liaoning Province; in 1954, and the two provinces of Liaosi and Liaodong were Liaoning Province, and Jin County was subordinate to Liaoning Province; in 1988, Jin County was determined by Liaoning Province to be one of the Liaosi Coastal Economic Zones; in November 16th, 1993, approved by the State Council to withdraw the county and establish a city, and changed Jin County to Linghai City.
The main attractions of Linghai City include Jiuhua Mountain, Oriental Huadi City, Cuiyan Mountain, and Yanjing Temple Scenic Spot.On December 22, 2021, Linghai City was selected as one of the "Sixth Batch of Demonstration Counties (Municipalities and Districts) of the Nation to Basically Realize the Mechanization of the Whole Process of Production of Major Crops".On June 2022, Linghai City was selected as one of the "National Youth Development-oriented Counties (Municipalities and Districts)". "On January 3, 2023, Linghai City was selected as one of the "National Model Counties (Cities, Districts and Flags) to be Named for the Protection of Minors".
In 2022, Linghai City will realize a gross domestic product (GDP) of 16 billion yuan, an increase of 3.1% year-on-year; a general public budget revenue of 1.25 billion yuan, an increase of 15.7% year-on-year; a fixed asset investment of 6.65 billion yuan, an increase of 11.9% year-on-year; and a per capita disposable income of 21,400 yuan for rural residents, an increase of 3.1% year-on-year.
