Xiuyan Manchu Autonomous County, belonging to Anshan City, Liaoning Province, is located in the north of Liaodong Peninsula. It is adjacent to Fengcheng City and Donggang City in the east and southeast, Dashiqiao City and Gaizhou City in the west, Zhuanghe City in the south, and Liaoyang County and Haicheng City in the north and northwest. The total administrative area is 4,502 square kilometers. As of the end of 2022, the total population of Xiuyan Manchu Autonomous County was 491,000 people. As of October 2022, Xiuyan Manchu Autonomous County has 3 streets, 18 towns, and 3 townships under its jurisdiction. Xiuyan Manchu Autonomous County is known as the "Jade Capital of China" because of its abundance of jade. Xiuyan was founded in the Liao Dynasty. In June 1947, Xiuyan was recovered and established as a people's government under Liaoning Province, Liaodong Province, Andong Prefecture of Liaoning Province, and Andong (Dandong) City of Liaoning Province; in 1954, it was under the jurisdiction of Liaoning Province, and in 1958, it became a county under the jurisdiction of Dandong City, and on January 17, 1985, it was abolished and established as the Xiuyan Manchu Autonomous County.
In 2022, the GDP of Xiuyan Manchu Autonomous County was 14.76 billion yuan, an increase of 0.4% over the previous year at constant prices.
On November 3, 2021, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism named Xiuyan Autonomous County the "Hometown of Chinese Folk Culture and Art" for the period of 2021-2023, and the county was named the "Hometown of Chinese Folk Culture and Art" by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.
