Xiangcheng District, belonging to Suzhou City, Jiangsu Province, is located in the north of Suzhou City, in the geographic center of Suzhou City, with a subtropical monsoon climate. The area under its jurisdiction is 489.96 square kilometers, with water area accounting for nearly 40%. As of October 2021, it has jurisdiction over 4 towns, 7 streets, 1 provincial-level tourist resort and 1 high-speed railway new town. The People's Government of the district is located at No. 8 East Yangcheng Lake Road. As of the end of 2021, the total resident population of the district was 898,500 people.
Xiangcheng District has a long history, named after Wu Zixu, a minister of Wu State in Spring and Autumn 2500 years ago, who "tasted the water in the phase earth and imitated the heaven and law of the earth" at the shore of Yangcheng Lake, and Xiangcheng belonged to Wu County in the 26th year of Qin Shihuang (221 years before the first Qin Emperor). In the 26th year of Qin Shihuang (221 BC), Xiangcheng belonged to Wu County. In the first year of Tongtian (696), Xiangcheng belonged to Changzhou County. Xiangcheng City has distinctive characteristics of water town, embracing Yangcheng Lake in the east and Taihu Lake in the west, with two-thirds of the water surface of Yangcheng Lake, a total of 10 lakes and 1,101 rivers of various sizes within its territory, and rich natural products.
Xiangcheng District has convenient transportation, with Beijing-Shanghai high-speed railway, Tongsu-Suzhou-Jiaxing-Ningbo high-speed railway, Suzhou-Wuxi Changzhou City Railway and Rutong-Suzhou-Lake City Railway and Shanghai-Nanjing Expressway, Suzhou-Jiaxing-Hangzhou Expressway and Suzhou-Boundary Expressway running through Xiangcheng, and Suzhou Railway Lines 2 and 4, and the People's Road, Guangji Road, National Highway 312, National Highway 524, and Provincial Highway 228 realizing the seamless connection between Xiangcheng and the main city.
