Jiaozuo City, prefecture-level city under the jurisdiction of Henan Province, is located in northwestern Henan Province, bordering Jincheng City and Lingshuan County in Shanxi Province on the Taihang Line in the north, Zhengzhou City and Luoyang City on the Yellow River in the south, Jiyuan City in the west, and Xinxiang City in the east, and enjoys a warm-temperate continental monsoon climate with distinctive seasons, with a total area of 4,071 square kilometers. As of the end of 2022, the resident population of Jiaozuo City was 3,523,500 people. As of June 2023, Jiaozuo City has 4 districts and 4 counties under its jurisdiction, with 2 county-level cities under its administration, and the municipal people's government is located at No. 889 Renmin Road in Jiefang District.
Jiaozuo City has a history of 5,000 years of civilization and 3,000 years of city building, and was known as Shanyang, Huaizhou, and Huaiqingfu in ancient times. Tang belonged to the Hebei Province, Huaizhou Hanoi County, Hanyang three cities to make the League State (i.e., Mengzhou), Henan Province, Henan Province, Henan County, Zhengzhou Xingyang County. In the Qing Dynasty, it belonged to Huaiqing Prefecture of Henan Province. Republic of China thirty-four years (1945) on September 8, the establishment of Jiaozuo City. In March 1948, Jiaozuo City was abolished and Jiaozuo County was set up instead. on July 9, 1956, the State Council abolished the Jiaozuo Mining District and set up Jiaozuo City. in March 1982, Jiaozuo City became a provincial municipality.
Jiaozuo City is located in the intersection of north and south, east and west of China, is the gateway city of Zhengzhou metropolitan area, the Central Plains urban agglomeration and the regional center of the junction of Henan and Jinjiang, the important node city of Henan metric high-speed rail network, and an important distribution center of materials in northwestern Henan. There are Pei Ligang culture, Yangshao culture and Longshan culture ruins, and it is the hometown of Sima Yi, Han Yu, Li Shangyin, Xu Heng, Zhu Zaiyu and other historical and cultural celebrities. It is the gathering place of "Seven Sages of the Bamboo Forest" and the retreat place of Emperor Xian of Han Dynasty. There are three 5A-level scenic spots in Yuntai Mountain, Qingtian River and Shennong Mountain, and Yuntai Mountain World Geopark, which is composed of Qinglong Gorge and Fenglin Gorge.
In 2023, Jiaozuo's gross regional product was 223.39 billion yuan, an increase of 3.9% over the previous year.
