Xiuwu County, belonging to Jiaozuo City, Henan Province, is located in the northwestern part of Henan Province and the eastern part of Jiaozuo City, neighboring Xinxiang City, Wujia County and Huixian City in the east, Wuzhi County of Jiaozuo City in the south, Jiaozuo City District in the west, and Jincheng City, Zezhou County and Lingshuan County in Shanxi Province in the north. The area under the jurisdiction of Xiuwu County is 611 square kilometers. As of November 2020, the resident population of Xiuwu County is 248,500 people. Xiuwu County has five towns, three townships, and one industrial and trade zone under its jurisdiction.
Xiuwu was called "Ningyi" during the Yin and Shang dynasties, and was renamed "Xiuwu" by King Wu of Zhou, who encountered heavy rains on his way to conquer the Zhou Empire and stationed his troops here to practice martial arts. Xiuwu is the place where Confucius asked about rituals, where Emperor Xian lived in banishment, where the Seven Sages of the Bamboo Grove lived in seclusion, where Sun Simiao practiced medicine, where Han Yu was born, and where the famous stranded porcelain of the Song Dynasty flourished.
Xiuwu County is a thousand-year-old county, the national ecological demonstration area, the national greening model county, the national garden county, Henan Province, double embrace model county, the national health county. Zhengjiao Intercity Railway, Hebao Expressway, Zhengjiao Jin Expressway and Zheng Yun Expressway pass through the county.
