Mengzhou City, a county-level city under the jurisdiction of Henan Province, administered by Jiaozuo City, is located in the northern part of Henan Province and the southwestern part of Jiaozuo City, situated in the transition zone from the pre-Taihang Mountains to the North China Plain, with a warm-temperate continental monsoon climate, and adjoining six districts and counties (municipalities), with a total area of 541.6 square kilometers. Mengzhou, formerly known as Meng County, got its name from the evolution of Mengjin and Mengzhou. In the fifth year of Yuanfeng of Emperor Wu of Han Dynasty (106 years ago), it was called Heyang County; in the third year of Huichang of Tang Dynasty (843 years ago), Heyang was elevated to Mengzhou; in the tenth year of Hongwu of Ming Dynasty (1377 years ago), the state was changed into a county, and it was first called Meng County; on May 20, 1996, approved by the State Council, Meng County withdrew from the county to build a city and established Mengzhou City, and the area under its jurisdiction remained unchanged.
