Caofeng Town, belonging to Kongdong District, Pingliang City, Gansu Province, is located in the northern loess plateau area of Kongdong District, Pingliang City, neighboring Baishui Town in the east, Forty Mile Shop Town in the south, Zhaihe and Xianglian Townships in the west, Honghe Township of Pangyang County, Ningxia in the northwest, and Xiaoqiao Township of Zhenyuan County, Qingyang City in the north. The total area of the administrative region is 201.3 square kilometers, and as of 2018, the household population of Caofeng Town was 33,274. In ancient times, Caofeng Town was a garrison place with plenty of forage, which gave it the name Caofeng, also known as Fotang Plateau. In September, 1949, it was called Anding District, and in March, 1958, the district was abolished and divided into two townships, Yuzhai and Caofeng.In June, 1961, it was reorganized into Caofeng Commune, and later divided into Yangzhuang and Caofeng.In 2002, the commune was reorganized into a township.
