Qingyang is a prefecture-level city under the jurisdiction of Gansu Province, known as Qingzhou in ancient times and Longdong in ancient times. As of June 2023, Qingyang City has one district and seven counties under its jurisdiction, with a total area of 27,119 square kilometers. As of the end of 2022, Qingyang City had a resident population of 2,158,400 people.
Located in the western region of China and the eastern part of Gansu Province, Qingyang City is bordered by Tongchuan City and Yan'an City in Shaanxi Province to the east; Yulin City and Yan'an City in Shaanxi Province and Wuzhong City in Ningxia Province to the north; Guyuan City and Wuzhong City in Ningxia Province to the west; and Pingliang City in Gansu Province and Xianyang City in Shaanxi Province to the south.
Qingyang City is the hometown of "Huanjiang Pterodactyl" and "Yellow River Ancient Elephant", the birthplace of China's "first Paleolithic", one of the birthplaces of the early farming civilization of the Chinese nation, the birthplace of the culture of traditional Chinese medicine, and the originator of the Chinese medicine ancestor. It is the birthplace of Chinese medicine culture, the birthplace of Qibo, the originator of Chinese medicine, the old revolutionary area of Gansu, and the birthplace of Changqing oil field. It is known as the "Red Holy Land, the hometown of Qihuang, the source of farming, the new energy capital", and is known as the "Granary of Longdong".
In 2022, Qingyang city realized gross regional product of 102.226 billion yuan, divided into industries, the primary industry added value of 12.483 billion yuan, the secondary industry added value of 55.194 billion yuan, the tertiary industry added value of 34.549 billion yuan. The structural ratio of the three industries was 12.2:54.0:33.8. Based on the resident population, the annual per capita GDP was 47,351 yuan.
