Yuexi Township is located in the southwestern part of Kaixian County, which is named because of the surrounding mountainous environment and longitudinal streams and ditches. Yuexi field was built in the Qing Dynasty, and the town was established in the 20th year of the Republic of China. In the township zoning adjustment in 2005, it was merged by the former Jumping Stirrup Township, Long'an Township and Yuexi Township. The town is 65 kilometers away from Kaixian County, 60 kilometers away from Wanzhou Airport, 62 kilometers away from Liangping Railway Station, bordering with Nanmen Township, Tieqiao Township, Wushan Township of this county and Bouncing Township, Houshan Township, Qiaoting Township of Wanzhou District. The government is stationed at Post Street of Yuexi Town. The town covers an area of 186 square kilometers, with 23 villages, 1 neighborhood committee, 230 village groups, a household population of 76,919 and a resident population of 47,802 (2010). The highest elevation within the jurisdiction is 1340 meters above sea level, and the lowest elevation is 190 meters above sea level. 2010 Yuexi Town was identified as one of the four small cities in Kaixian County.
