Wushan County, located in the eastern edge of Chongqing Municipality, in the heart of the Three Gorges Reservoir Area, known as the "Gateway to Northeast Chongqing". It spans both sides of the Yangtze River Wushan Gorge, neighboring Badong County of Hubei Province in the east, Jianshi County of Hubei Province in the south, Fengjie County of Chongqing Municipality in the west, and Wuxi County of Chongqing Municipality and Shennongjia Forestry District of Hubei Province in the north. As of 2021, Wushan County covers an area of 2,958 square kilometers, with 26 townships (streets) and 340 villages (neighborhoods) under its jurisdiction.At the end of 2022, Wushan County had a resident population of 463,500 people, with an urbanization rate of 45.70%. In July 2019, Wushan County was awarded the title of "China's Natural Oxygen Bar" in 2019.In September 2019, Wushan County was selected as one of the first batch of national model areas for regional tourism.On June 20, 2022, the Zhengzhou-Chongqing High Speed Railway was opened for operation, and Wushan Station was opened.
