Wulong District, belonging to Chongqing Municipality, is located in the southeastern part of Chongqing Municipality, with longitude 107°14'~108°05'E and latitude 29°02'~29°40'N. It is situated in the lower reaches of Wujiang River and the canyon area of Wuling and Dalou Mountains in the southeastern part of Chongqing Municipality. There are the "World Natural Heritage" Karst Furong Cave and the "National 5A Tourist Attractions" Tiansheng Three Bridges in the area.
As of 2021, Wulong District covers an area of 2,901 square kilometers, with 4 streets, 10 towns and 12 townships under its jurisdiction. At the end of 2022, Wulong District had a total household population of 404,429 and a resident population of 357,600. There are 13 ethnic groups including Han, Miao, Tujia and Gelao.
In September 2019, it was selected as one of the first batch of national demonstration areas for regional tourism.On October 9, 2020, it was awarded the title of the fourth batch of national ecological civilization construction demonstration cities and counties by the Ministry of Ecology and Environment.On October 20, it was selected to the list of the national double embracing model cities (counties).On December 29, 2021, it was awarded the title of Natural Oxygen Bar of China.In October 2023, it was selected to the 2023 benchmark of business environment in Chongqing Municipality City.
In 2023, Wulong District realized a GDP of 27.346 billion yuan, up 5.5% year-on-year. By industry, the added value of primary industry was 3.318 billion yuan, up 4.8% year-on-year; the added value of secondary industry was 10.430 billion yuan, up 6.3% year-on-year; the added value of tertiary industry was 13.598 billion yuan, up 5.1% year-on-year.
