Zuolan Township is located in the northwestern part of Chengkou County, bordering Shaanxi and Sichuan, 55 kilometers away from the county town. It was formed by the merger of the former Zuolan Township and the former Houyu Township when the establishment was adjusted in 2004, with a total jurisdiction of 6 administrative villages and 30 villagers' groups, with 2012 households and 7846 people living in them. The township covers an area of 80.8 square kilometers, including 470 hectares of arable land, 2,802 hectares of forest land and 781 hectares of grassland. The township has thin land ridges and cold climate, belonging to alpine mountainous area with an average elevation of 900 meters. There are rich barium mining resources in the area, and there are rich agricultural and forestry specialty products such as raw lacquer, walnuts, chestnuts, and valuable Chinese herbs. There are 7 individual enterprises, including 6 barium mines and 1 private power station.
