Dongcheng District is the area with the highest concentration of cultural relics and monuments in Beijing. The district has 16 national-level cultural relics protection units, accounting for 37% of Beijing; 60 municipal-level cultural relics protection units, accounting for 24% of the city; and 57 district-level cultural relics protection units. The famous "Tian'an Li Ri Ri" and "Forbidden Sunset" among the sixteen scenic spots of New Beijing, the ancient and mysterious Yonghe Palace of the Secret Sect of Zen, the highest educational institution of the Yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasties, the Imperial College, the Imperial Temple, and the Social Society, which are the "Left Ancestor and Right Society", are all protected by the state-level cultural relics in the district. "The temple, the altar of the God of God, the ancient Beijing Observatory for exploring the mysteries of the sky, the Bell and Drum Tower, the Bell and Drum Tower for sounding the gold and beating the drums to tell the time, the Wen Tianxiang Ancestral Hall for the survival of the righteousness, and the Red Building of the Peking University have long been famous both at home and abroad, and there are also the former residences of a number of celebrities, such as Mao Zedong, Mao Dun, Laoshe, and Soong Chingling, and so on. In 2022, Dongcheng District will realize a GDP of 343.71 billion yuan, of which the secondary industry will realize an added value of 7.85 billion yuan and the tertiary industry will realize an added value of 335.86 billion yuan. Based on the resident population, in 2022, the per capita GDP of Dongcheng District reaches 487,000 yuan (equivalent to 72,000 dollars at the average annual exchange rate).
