Taiyuan City, referred to as "and (bīng)", the ancient name of Jinyang, also known as and state, Longcheng, prefecture-level city under the jurisdiction of Shanxi Province, the capital of the province, Ⅰ big city, second-tier cities, the State Council approved the determination of the central region of the important center of the city, energy, heavy chemical industry-based industrial base. It is located in the central part of Shanxi Province and the northern part of Jinzhong Basin, between latitude 37°27′~38°25′ north and longitude 111°30′~113°09′ east, with a total area of 6,988 square kilometers. As of the end of 2022, the resident population of Taiyuan was 5.4350 million. As of the end of 2021, Taiyuan has 6 districts and 3 counties under its jurisdiction, with 1 county-level city in its stead, and the municipal people's government is located in Xinghualing District.
Taiyuan is a national historical and cultural city, an ancient capital with a history of more than 2,000 years, an ancient city with a history of "controlling the mountains and rivers and the shoulders and backs of the whole world", and a historical city with a history of "holding the key to the four fortresses and controlling the capitals of the five plains". Taiyuan has a warm-temperate continental monsoon climate, with long dry and cold winters, hot and humid rainy summers, short and windy spring and fall seasons, and distinct wet and dry seasons. Surrounded by mountains on three sides and with the Fen River, the second largest tributary of the Yellow River, flowing from north to south, Taiyuan has been known as the "Fair and Splendid City of Taiyuan" since ancient times. In 2023, Taiyuan realized a regional gross domestic product (GDP) of 557.374 billion yuan, an increase of 3.8%. Among them, the added value of primary industry is 4.598 billion yuan, down 3.9%; the added value of secondary industry is 234.168 billion yuan, up 2.2%; the added value of tertiary industry (service industry) is 318.608 billion yuan, up 4.8%. The proportion of the three industries in GDP was 0.8%, 42.1% and 57.1% respectively.
