Ningwu County, also known as Phoenix City, is part of Xinzhou City, Shanxi Province, located in the north-central part of Shanxi Province. It was named after the Guangning and Shenwu counties, which were placed there during the Northern Wei Dynasty. Geographic coordinates between 111°50'-120°40'east longitude and 38°31′-39°8′ north latitude. The total area is 1987.7 square kilometers. Ningwu County is located in the warm-temperature zone, and belongs to the alpine severe cold zone and cold dry zone. As of October 2021, Ningwu County has jurisdiction over 5 towns, 7 townships, and 2 other township-level units. The county people's government is located in Fenghuang Town. As of 2020, the seventh census, Ningwu County had a resident population of 136,470.
