Lantian County, belonging to Xi'an City, Shaanxi Province, is located in the northern foothills of the Qinling Mountains and the southeast of the Guanzhong Plain, bounded by the Qinling Mountains in the southeast and bordered by Luonan County, Shangzhou District and Zhashui County in Shangluo City; bounded by the Kuryu River in the west and bordered by Chang'an and Baqiao Districts; and bounded by the Lixi Mountains in the north and bordered by Lintong District, Linwei District in Weinan City, and Huazhou District, with a total area of 2006 square kilometers. It accounts for approximately 19.9% of the total area of Xi'an and is 22 km from downtown Xi'an. As of October 2022, Lantian County has 1 street and 18 towns under its jurisdiction. As of the end of 2022, Lantian County had a resident population of 494,800.
Lantian is the mother of Fuxi and Nuwa, the hometown of Huaxu, the direct ancestor of the Yan Emperor and the Yellow Emperor, and the origin of Lantian Jade, one of the Four Famous Jades, which is named after the abundance of jade in its territory, and is known as "Jade Seed Lantian", and is the gateway to the southeast of Guanzhong. Lantian is the main road from Guanzhong to the southeastern provinces. Lantian is a famous historical and cultural city in Shaanxi Province, with ancient ruins such as Shang Chen Ruins and Lantian Man Ruins unearthed, and scenic spots such as Wujin Temple, the ancestor of Pure Land Sect, Shuilu Nunnery, Wang Shunshan Mountain, and Tangyu Hot Springs in its territory.
