Xi'an, anciently known as Chang'an and Haojing, a prefecture-level city under the jurisdiction of Shaanxi Province, is the capital of Shaanxi Province, a sub-provincial city, a megacity, a national central city, the core city of Xi'an metropolitan area as well as the Guanzhong Plain urban agglomeration, an important central city in western China as approved by the State Council, and an important scientific research, education and industrial base of the country. As of the end of 2022, the city has 11 districts and 2 counties under its jurisdiction, with a total area of 10,108 square kilometers and a resident population of 12,995,900.

Xi'an is home to seven "double first-class" universities, including Xi'an Jiaotong University, Northwestern Polytechnical University and Xi'an University of Electronic Science and Technology.

In terms of industries, the added value of primary industry is 32.520 billion yuan, an increase of 3.4%; the added value of secondary industry is 414.692 billion yuan, an increase of 6.2%; the added value of tertiary industry is 753.864 billion yuan, an increase of 4.7%.
