Chaoyang City, ancient name of Longcheng, Xingzhong, Liaoning Province, prefecture-level city, located in northwestern Liaoning Province, the terrain for the north and north-west, southwest of the high, low to the east, in the north temperate continental monsoon climate zone, with a total area of 19,699.14 square kilometers. As of October 2022, the city has two districts and three counties under its jurisdiction, with two county-level cities in its stead. As of the end of 2022, Chaoyang had a resident population of 2.798 million.
Chaoyang is a hub zone for political, economic and cultural exchanges between Northeast China and the Central Plains, and is a multiethnic historical city in Northeast China and a strategic location outside the Seychelles in all times. Sixteen states period Murong Xianbei began to build Longcheng (predecessor of Chaoyang City) for the capital city of three Yan, Northern Wei to Sui and Tang dynasties set up Yingzhou, Liao and Jin dynasties set up Xingzhongfu, the Yuan dynasty set up Xingzhongzhou, Ming Hongwu years set up Yingzhou Wei, the end of the Qing dynasty set up Chaoyangfu. The three Yan dynasties all used Longcheng (Chaoyang) as their capitals or companion capitals, which is why Longcheng is also known as the "Ancient Capital of the Three Swallows". The culture formed during the Three Swallows period, represented by horse harnesses and walking sticks, is called "Three Swallows Culture", and there are attractions such as the National Geopark of Fossilized Birds, Fenghuang Mountain, Daheishan Mountain, and the Valley of Bathing Dragons in the territory.
In 2023, Chaoyang's GDP will be 104.37 billion yuan, an increase of 5.3% over the previous year.
