Sayaboury is a provincial administrative district in Laos. It is located at the southwestern tip of Upper Laos. It has an area of 18,400 square kilometers and a population of 224,000 (1985). The provincial capital is Sayaboury. It is the only province in Laos located on the west bank of the Mekong River, and is bordered by Thailand to the west by the Kluang Mountains. Cultivates double-cropped rice, peanuts, cotton, and beans, with gypsum and coal underground. It is the main teak-producing region of Laos, with dense tropical forests.
