Jurong City, a county-level city under the jurisdiction of Jiangsu Province, administered by Zhenjiang City, is located in the southern part of Jiangsu Province, at latitude 32°37′~32°14′ north and longitude 118°57′~119°23′ east, bordering on the west and northwest with Jiangning, Lishui, Qixia and other districts of Nanjing City, and Yizheng City of Yangzhou City across the Yangtze River; northeast to the east, connected with Dantu and Runzhou Districts of Zhenjiang City; southeast to the south, with Jintan of Changzhou City, From the southeast to the south, it borders with Jintan and Liyang of Changzhou City, is the southeast gateway of Nanjing, a member of Nanjing Metropolitan Area, and is known as "the new eastern suburb of Nanjing and the imperial garden of Jinling", and is an emerging city in the Yangtze River Delta integrating port, industry, commerce and tourism. As of the end of 2022, the city has 3 streets and 8 towns under its jurisdiction, with a total area of 1,385 square kilometers, a resident population of 642,000, and an urbanization rate of 65.78%.
Jurong was established in the Western Han Dynasty in the first year of Yuanshuo (128 B.C.), with a history of more than 2,000 years, and is one of the first thirteen civilized ancient counties in Jiangsu Province, and has long been a county under the jurisdiction of Nanjing. it was approved by the State Council to be abolished as a county and set up as a city in April 1995, and has become one of the earliest areas open to the outside world as announced by the State Council.
