Shulan is a county-level city in Jilin Province, administered by Jilin City. Located in the north-central part of Jilin Province, Shulan is bounded by Jilin City in the south, Harbin City in Heilongjiang Province in the north, Changchun City in Jilin Province across the Songhua River in the west, and bordered by Jiaohe City, Jiutai City, Yushu City in Jilin Province, and Wuchang City in Heilongjiang Province in the periphery, respectively. As of October 2022, Shulan City covers an area of 4,600 square kilometers, with 5 streets, 10 towns, 5 townships, and a provincial-level economic development zone.At the end of 2021, Shulan City had a total household population of 587,000 people.
Shulan is located in the center of Northeast Asia Economic Circle, within the one-hour economic circle of Jilin, Changchun and Harbin. The general altitude of Shulan City is 170-220 meters above sea level. The average annual temperature is 4.3℃ and the average annual rainfall is 683mm. There are highway trunk lines such as Jihei Highway, Jialing Highway and Heidai Highway in the city; Labin Railway and Jishu Railway run through Shulan city. The city has 4 national AA scenic spots, 2 provincial forest parks, 3 national water conservancy scenic spots, 2 rafting attractions, 4 large religious and cultural tourism sites, and 2 ski resorts.In October 2023, Shulan was awarded the title of the third batch of national agricultural product quality safety counties by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
In 2021, Shulan realized a gross regional product of 13.19 billion yuan, an increase of 7.2% over 2020.
