Chengde, also known as "Hot River", is a prefecture-level city under the jurisdiction of Hebei Province, an international tourist city in Hebei, one of the first national historical and cultural cities, and a regional center connecting Beijing, Tianjin, Liaozhou and Mongolia, as approved by the Hebei Provincial Government. As of 2022, the city has three municipal districts, four counties, three autonomous counties, and one county-level city under its jurisdiction, with a total area of 39,511.89 square kilometers and a resident population of 3,320,900.
Chengde City is located in the northeastern part of Hebei Province, neighboring Beijing and Tianjin in the south, Chifeng City and Xilingol League in the north, neighboring Chaoyang City, Qinhuangdao City, Tangshan City and Zhangjiakou City in the east and the west, and is an important node connecting Beijing, Tianjin, Hebei, LiaoMeng, and a transition zone connecting the two regions of North China and Northeast China, and has a unique advantage of location of "one city connecting the five provinces", and is the national open city of category A. It is a national class A open city, the place where the standardized sound of Chinese Mandarin is collected, the hometown of photography in China, and the hometown of paper-cutting in China. Chengde's Summer Resort and its surrounding temples are one of China's top ten scenic spots, one of the top forty tourist attractions, and a national key scenic spot, which was included in UNESCO's "World Cultural Heritage List" in 1994.
Qing Emperor Kangxi forty-two years (1703), Kangxi built the summer residence, became the second political center of the Qing dynasty. In the first year of the Qing Yongzheng (1723), the Jehol Hall was set up. Qing Yongzheng eleven years (1733), Yongzheng to take "bear the ancestor's virtue," the meaning of the word "Huang Cheng Tiande" interpretation of the emperor adhering to the grace of heaven and earth to nurture all things, set up Chengde Directly subordinate to the state, began to be called "Chengde ". In 1955, the establishment of the Jehol province was abolished, and Chengde was transferred to Hebei province as a provincial municipality. 2012, Chengde City was named China's "Top Ten Characteristic Leisure Cities"; in November 2016, Chengde City was named by the National Tourism Administration as the second batch of national demonstration zones for regional tourism; in October 2017, Chengde City was selected as one of the National Tourism Model Areas; and in October 2012, Chengde City was selected as one of the National Tourism Model Areas for national tourism. In October, Chengde City was selected as a national forest city.
In 2023, the GDP of Chengde City will be 185.17 billion yuan, an increase of 5.6%.
