Liwan District, belonging to Guangzhou City, Guangdong Province, is one of the old urban areas of Guangzhou City, the center of the national central city. It is located in the western part of Guangzhou City and south of the Tropic of Cancer. It is connected with Yuexiu District in the northeast, separated from Haizhu District and Panyu District across the river in the southeast, neighboring Baiyun District in the north and northwest, and bordering Nanhai District of Foshan City in the west and south. The total area is 59.1 square kilometers. As of December 2022, the resident population was 1,123,700, with a household population of 795,800 people. As of October 2021, Liwan District has 22 streets under its jurisdiction, with the district's people's government stationed at No. 2, Fangcun Avenue West, Shiwitang Street.
Liwan District is commonly known as "Xiguan", because the area has "a bay of green water, two banks of lychee red" reputation of the "Lychee Bay" and named, "taste Lingnan culture to Guangzhou, not to Liwan is not considered to have been to Guangzhou" reputation. In 1921, the Guangzhou Municipal Office was established, and the Xiguan District belonged to the Guangzhou Municipal District. 1960, the West District was renamed Liwan District, and in 2005, Fangcun District was transferred to Liwan District.
In 2022, Liwan District realized a GDP of 121.557 billion yuan.
