Huli District, part of Xiamen, Fujian Province, is the central city of Xiamen, located in the northern part of Xiamen Island, surrounded by sea on three sides, across the sea from Kinmen Island, and bordering Siming District to the south, with a land area of 72.26 square kilometers and a 30-kilometer-long coastline. As of October 2022, Huli District has five streets under its jurisdiction, as well as one development zone and one free trade zone. As of the end of 2022, Huli District had a resident population of 996,000 people. Founded in November 1987, Huli District is the birthplace of the Xiamen Special Economic Zone (SEZ). 1980, the State Council approved the establishment of the Xiamen Special Economic Zone (SEZ) within 2.5 square kilometers of Huli; in 1984, Comrade Deng Xiaoping wrote an inscription "Run the SEZ faster and better", and the scope of the SEZ was expanded to Xiamen Island. In 1984, Comrade Deng Xiaoping wrote the inscription "Run the Special Economic Zone faster and better" in Huli. Huli District is the center of the national information technology industry base, the sixth largest container throughput in China, one of the top ten ports in China, and an important hub for Xiamen Island's external transportation. In 2022, the gross domestic product (GDP) of Huli District will be RMB 168.194 billion, of which the added value of the secondary and tertiary industries will be RMB 68.374 billion and RMB 99.820 billion, with the proportion of the three industries at 0:40.7:59.3. Based on the resident population, the per capita GDP will reach RMB 166,446, representing an increase of 11.6% over the previous year.
