Nan'an City, elegantly known as Wurong, is a county-level city under the jurisdiction of Fujian Province, administered by Quanzhou City, located on the southeast coast of Fujian Province, in the middle reaches of the Jinjiang River. The city covers an area of 2,036 square kilometers. As of the end of 2021, Nan'an City had a resident population of 1,527,000 people. It is predominantly Han Chinese, with She, Manchu, Hui and other ethnic minorities. As of August 2022, Nan'an City has 3 streets, 21 towns, and 2 townships under its jurisdiction. The city government is located at No. 1 Liu Xin Road.
Nan'an City was founded in the third year of Yong'an (260) of the Three Kingdoms period of Eastern Wu, with the name "Dong'an County". After that, the name was changed to Jin'an, Liang'an, etc. In the ninth year of Kaihuang of Sui Dynasty (589), it was called Nan'an County, and in the beginning of Si Sheng of Tang Dynasty (684), it was set up as Wu Rong Prefecture, which is why Nan'an was also known as Wu Rong. Nan'an history was once the political, economic and cultural center of southern Fujian, known as "Seaside Zulu", the territory of the ancient port of Fengzhou Jinji was once the starting point of the ancient "Maritime Silk Road". Ouyang Zhan in the Tang Dynasty, the pioneer of the culture of the eight Fujian, the Ming Dynasty, the outstanding thinker Li Zhi, the national hero Zheng Chenggong, a generation of famous general Ye Fei, the well-known patriotic overseas Chinese Li Guangqian, Huang Zhong Xian, the place of ancestry are in Nan'an. Nan'an was one of the three counties of Quanzhou in the Qing Dynasty. Nan'an has also become a famous hometown of overseas Chinese due to the large number of Nan'an people who moved overseas in recent times.
In 2022, Nan'an's gross regional product was 164.605 billion yuan, an increase of 3.7%. The added value of primary industry was 3.468 billion yuan, an increase of 3.3%; the added value of secondary industry was 98.831 billion yuan, an increase of 3.7%; and the added value of tertiary industry was 62.306 billion yuan, an increase of 3.9%.
