Tongliang District, belongs to Chongqing Municipality. It is located in the upper reaches of the Yangtze River, the western part of Chongqing Municipality, and the metropolitan area of the main city of Chongqing, with Dazu District in the southwest, Hechuan District in the northeast, Yongchuan District in the south, Tongnan District in the northwest, and Bishan District in the southeast. By the end of 2019, Tongliang District was under the jurisdiction of 23 towns and 5 streets, with a total area of 1,340.47 square kilometers. According to the seventh census, as of 00:00 on November 1, 2020, Tongliang District had a resident population of 685,729 people.
Tongliang District, is the hometown of Qiu Shaoyun, the Chinese People's Volunteer Army's special grade meritorious officer and the birthplace of Tongliang Dragon Lantern. It has won the honorary titles of National Sanitary City, National Expatriate Labor Base, National Key County of Vegetable Production, National Demonstration Area of Water-saving Social Construction, National First Batch of Garden County City, National Sanitary County City, City with the Happiest Sense of Happiness, Second Batch of Counties (Districts) of the Standard of Water-saving Social Construction, and National Pilot Unit of Rural Governance System Construction, among others.
In 2022, Tongliang District will realize a regional GDP of 73.363 billion yuan.
