Shengzhou, a county-level city under the jurisdiction of Zhejiang Province, is administered by Shaoxing City. It is located in the eastern part of Zhejiang Province, bordered by Shaoxing City to the north and Xinchang County to the east, and is part of the Yangtze River Delta Economic Zone, with a total area of 1,789 square kilometers. As of February 2023, Shengzhou City has 4 streets, 10 towns and 1 township under its jurisdiction.At the end of 2022, Shengzhou City had a total household population of 709,739 people.
Shengzhou City was founded as a county in Qin and Han Dynasties for more than 2,100 years, and was named Sheng County in the Northern Song Dynasty before it was abolished and established as Shengzhou City in 1995. Shengzhou is the hometown of Ren Guang, Ma Yinchu, Yuan Xuefen, Ma Xiaochun and other modern cultural celebrities, as well as the birthplace of Yueju Opera. Surrounded by mountains on all sides, with five rivers converging and a basin in the middle, Shengzhou City is characterized by "seven mountains, one water and two fields", pleasant climate, and a forest coverage rate of 67.2%, and is known as "the most beautiful landscape in the southeast of China, and the leading place in the countryside". The city is located in the crossroads of Hangzhou, Ningbo, Wenzhou, and Jinyi metropolitan areas, and is the center node of the open channel of YiYong-Zhou, where the Shangyu-Sanmen Expressway and the Ningbo-Jinhua Expressway intersect.
In 2023, the city's gross domestic product (GDP) will be 75.036 billion yuan, with a year-on-year growth of 7.6% at constant prices, ranking third in Shaoxing, with a growth rate 2.4 and 1.6 percentage points higher than that of the whole country (5.2%) and the whole province (6.0%), respectively.
