Ninghai County, a county under the jurisdiction of Ningbo City, Zhejiang Province, is located in the middle part of the coastline of mainland China, the eastern part of Zhejiang Province, the southern coast of Ningbo City, between Xiangshan Harbor and Sanmen Bay, and the intersection of Tiantai Mountain and Siming Mountain ranges, with Xiangshan County to the east, Sanmen County of Taizhou City to the south, Tiantai County of Taizhou City and Xinchang County of Shaoxing City to the west, and Fenghua District to the north, with a total area of 1,861.20 square kilometers of land in the county. As of the end of 2019, the county has 4 streets, 11 towns and 3 townships, with a total of 30 communities and 363 administrative villages.In 2023, the resident population of Ninghai County was 710,000, with an urbanization rate of 63.7%.
Ninghai County was founded in the first year of Taikang of Emperor Wu of the Jin Dynasty (280 AD), and has a history of more than 1,700 years. It is one of the first coastal open areas approved by the State Council. The landscape is characterized by the pattern of "seven mountains, one water and two fields". Ninghai County is the starting place of Xu Xiake's Travels, the birthplace of China Tourism Day, and has 4A-level tourist attractions such as Qiantong Ancient Town, Wushan Grottoes, Ninghai Forest Hot Spring, etc. In September 2019, Ninghai County has been selected as one of the first batch of national demonstration zones for whole-area tourism. Since ancient times, Ninghai has been blessed with outstanding people and famous writers, such as Hu Sansheng, the annotator of "Ziji Tongjian"; Fang Xiaoru, a great Confucian scholar of the Ming Dynasty; Wang Xitong, a peasant leader who rose up; Zuoshi, a writer who was one of the "Five Martyrs of ZuoLian"; Pan Tianshou, a generation of masters of Chinese paintings; and Kong Yong, a general of the resistance against the Japanese, and so on.
In 2023, Ninghai County realized a GDP of 100.12 billion yuan, a year-on-year growth of 7.8% at constant prices.
