Tengchong City, a county-level city under the jurisdiction of Yunnan Province, administered by Baoshan City, is located in the southwestern part of Yunnan Province, in the western part of Baoshan City, connected with Longyang District in the east, bordering Longling County and Lianghe County in the south, Yingjiang County and the Republic of the Union of Myanmar in the west, and neighboring Lushui City of Nujiang Lisu Autonomous Prefecture in the northeast. The city is 606 kilometers away from the provincial capital Kunming, 200 kilometers away from Myitkyina in Myanmar and 602 kilometers away from Redo in India, which is an important gateway and node to South and Southeast Asia in China. It has a total area of 5,845 square kilometers and a national border of 148.075 kilometers.As of October 2022, it has jurisdiction over 10 towns, 7 townships and 2 streets. The municipal government is located in Tengchong Street. at the end of 2021, the resident population was 643,000 people.
Tengchong is a provincial-level historical and cultural city in Yunnan, and is also a famous hometown of overseas Chinese, a state of literature, and a distribution center for jadeite. Tengchong was called Dianyue during the Western Han Dynasty, and Tengchong Prefecture was set up in the middle of the Dali Kingdom. Because of its important geographical position, it has been heavily guarded by soldiers throughout the ages, and in the Ming Dynasty, it also built a stone city, which is called "the first city of the extreme border". There are many tourist attractions, such as Volcano National Park, Heshun Ancient Town, Beihai Wetland, and National Memorial Cemetery.
In 2022, Tengchong City will realize a regional GDP of 34.797 billion yuan, an increase of 5.6%; per capita disposable income of urban and rural residents will be 40,100 yuan and 15,887 yuan, an increase of 2.2% and 6.5% respectively.
