Huozhou City, a county-level city under the jurisdiction of Shanxi Province, administered by Linfen City, is located in the south-central part of Shanxi Province and the northern part of Linfen City, between the Huoshan Dorsal Slope and Lvliang Rongfeng Belt, with a temperate continental monsoon climate, adjoining five counties, and covering a total area of 765.39 square kilometers. According to Yitongzhi, Huozhou was named after Huo Mountain to the east. In the third year of Jin Zhenyou (1215), Huozhou was set up in today's city; in the first year of the Republic of China (1912), Huozhou was called Huo County; in December, 1989, Huo County was abolished to set up Huozhou City; in October, 2000, Huozhou City was administered by Linfen City. The main attractions of Huozhou include Nuwa Huang Temple, Huozhou Drum Tower, Qiliyu Scenic Area, Huozhou Department, and Huozhou Thousand Buddha Cliffs.In March 2019, Huozhou City was selected as one of the "First Batch of Revolutionary Cultural Relics Protection and Utilization Area Districts and Counties List".In September 2021, Huozhou City was selected as one of "The Whole Counties (Municipalities and Districts) Pilot List of Rooftop Distributed Photovoltaic Development". On December 27, 2022, Huozhou City was selected as one of the "Second Batch of National Science Popularization Demonstration Counties (Cities and Districts) in the Years of 2021-2025".In May, 2023, Huozhou City was formally awarded the "Chinese New Year Buns" by China Grain Industry Association. In May 2023, Huozhou was officially awarded the honor of "Hometown of Chinese New Year Buns" by the China Grain Industry Association.
In 2021, Huozhou city realized a regional gross domestic product (GDP) of 10.05 billion yuan, up 5.3% year-on-year; the per capita disposable income of rural and urban permanent residents reached 17,947 yuan and 36,903 yuan, an increase of 11% and 7.7% respectively.
