Houma, a county-level city under the jurisdiction of Shanxi Province, administered by Linfen City, is located in the southern part of Shanxi Province, with geographic coordinates between longitude 111°23′5″~111°41′1″E and latitude 35°24′2″~35°52′9″N, neighboring Quwo County in the east, Xinjiang County in the west, Wenxi County in the south and Xiangfen County in the north. Houma belongs to the temperate monsoon climate zone, with cold winters, hot summers and four distinct seasons, covering a total area of 220 square kilometers. As of the end of 2022, Houma had a resident population of 257,668. As of June 2023, Houma City has five streets and three townships under its jurisdiction, with the municipal government stationed at Shifu Road, Ludong Street.
The ancient name of Houma was "Xintian". In the 26th year of Qin Shi Huangdi (221 years ago), Jiangxian County was established. In the Ming Dynasty, it was named Houma because of the official post. 1958, the three counties of Quwu, Xinjiang and Fencheng were merged to form Houma City, and on May 1, 1963, the establishment of Houma City was abolished, and on August 1, 1971, the city of Houma was re-established. Houma City is known as "Chinese civilization see Shanxi, Shanxi civilization source Houma".
