Zuoyun County, belonging to Datong City, Shanxi Province, Zuoyun County is located on the northern plateau of the Sebei, close to Datong in the east, Yuyu in the west, Shuozhou in the south, and Hohhot in the north, between latitude 39°44′-40°15′ north and longitude 112°34′-112°59′ east, with a total area of 1,294 square kilometers. As of October 2022, Zuoyun County has 3 towns and 5 townships under its jurisdiction. As of the end of 2022, the resident population of Zuoyun County was 115,355,000 people.
Zuoyun has a long history, with humans living here more than 100,000 years ago. In the Spring and Autumn Period, it was the pastureland of the White Sheep Tribe of the Northern Di, in the Warring States Period, it was the Wushu Plugging Land of the State of Zhao, in the Han Period, it was changed to Hengzhou, and in the Yuan Period, it was the dependency of Datong. In the fourth year of Ming Hongwu (1371), Datong Duwei was set up, and four years later it was renamed Shanxi Xingduji, which had jurisdiction over 26 guards and straddled the east-west border between the Yellow River and the Yanshan Mountains, and in the third year of Yongzheng of the Qing Dynasty (1725), the county was set up.
In 2022, Zuoyun County realized a gross regional product of 15.32 billion yuan, of which the added value of primary industry was 444 million yuan, the added value of secondary industry was 10.015 billion yuan, and the added value of tertiary industry was 4.863 billion yuan. The ratio of the structure of the three industries is 2.9:65.4:31.7.
