Xinrong District, belongs to Datong City, Shanxi Province. Located in the north of Shanxi Province, the northern edge of the Datong Basin, north and northwest of the Great Wall as a boundary with Fengzhen City, Liangcheng County adjacent to the east and Yanggao County, Yunzhou District, west of Zuoyun County, south of Yungang District, Pingcheng District adjacent to a total area of 1,090 square kilometers. As of June 2023, Xinrong District has three towns and four townships under its jurisdiction.
In 1970, the North Suburb District was established, and in 1972, the North Suburb District was renamed Xinrong District. Xinrong District has a temperate continental monsoon climate with four distinct seasons. The rivers belong to the Yongding River system in the Haihe River Basin. There are mainly the Royal River, Wanquan River, Circle River, Silt River, Shili River 5 rivers. There is one national key cultural relics protection unit: Fangshan Yonggu Tomb Ruins. It is the second batch of revolutionary cultural relics protection and utilization of the area district.
In 2022, the gross regional product of Xinrong District exceeds 8.25 billion yuan, with a growth rate of 7.4%.
