Zichang City, county-level city in Shaanxi Province, administered by Yan'an City, is located in the middle of the Loess Plateau, depending on the Hengshan Mountains in the north, Zizhou County and Qingjian County in the east, Yanchuan County and Yan'an City in the south, and Ansai District and Jingbian County in the west, with a total area of 2,405 square kilometers. The city is 93 kilometers from Yan'an and 430 kilometers from the provincial capital Xi'an. As of October 2022, Zicang City has 3 streets and 8 towns under its jurisdiction. As of the end of 2022, Zicang City had a resident population of 215,300.
Zicang is the domain of Yongzhou at the time of Yugong, formerly known as Anding County, and renamed Zicang County in honor of the national hero Xie Zicang in the thirty-first year of the Republic of China (1942), the hometown of Xie Zicang, the landing point of the Central Red Army's Ten Thousand Miles Long March and the starting point of the Eastern Campaign Against Japanese Aggression, the seat of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and the Chinese Soviet Government during the late period of the Land Revolution, and designated as one of the old revolutionary strongholds after the founding of the Republic of China, with 10 Zicang-born military personnel being granted the rank of major general or above. Ten soldiers of Zicang nationality have been awarded the rank of Major General or above, and Zicang is known as "Red Capital" and "Generals' County".
