Wuji County, belonging to Yan'an City, Shaanxi Province, is located in the northwest of Yan'an City, neighboring Dingbian County in the northwest, Zhidan County in the southeast, Jingbian County in the northeast, and Huachi County in Gansu Province in the southwest, with a total area of 3,791.5 square kilometers. As of 2022, Wuji County has 1 street and 8 towns under its jurisdiction. As of the end of 2022, Wuji County had a total population of 145,300 people. Wuji County is the landing point of the Central Red Army's victory in the Long March and the national model county for returning farmland to forest. During the Warring States period, Wu Qi, a famous military man and politician, was stationed here for 23 years, from which the name of Wu Qi County originated. On October 19, 1935, the Central Red Army arrived at Wuqi after the 25,000-mile Long March. During the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the War of Liberation, Wuqi became the revolutionary rear area of Shanxi-Gansu-Ningxia Border Region and Longdong Sub-region, and in 1998, in response to the slogan of the central government, "Recreating a Northwest Region with beautiful mountains and rivers", Wuqi County took the lead in the implementation of the ban on grazing in the mountains and the return of farmland to forests, and became the first county of the country to return farmland to forests. 2010, Wuqi County took the lead in the implementation of fifteen-year free education.
