Longkou City, county-level city under the jurisdiction of Shandong Province, is administered by Yantai City. Located in the northwestern part of the Jiaodong Peninsula and on the southern shore of the Bohai Bay, Longkou is bordered by Penglai District in the east, Qixia City and Zhaoyuan City in the south, and the Bohai Sea in the west and north, with Tianjin and Dalian across the sea. As of October 2022, Longkou City has a total area of 901 square kilometers, with five streets, eight towns, and one high-tech industrial park under its jurisdiction. As of November 2020, Longkou has a resident population of 729,800 people.
The history of Longkou can be traced back to the Xia Dynasty, with the state of Lai built at the end of Shang Dynasty, and the county of Huang set up in the Qin Dynasty, which was named after the Longkou Dun built in the twenty-first year of Ming Hongwu (1388).In 1986, approved by the State Council, Huang County was abolished, and the city of Longkou was set up. There are railroad lines in the city, such as Dalailong Railway and Longyan Railway. Longkou City has been honored as National Civilized City, National Quality Safety County of Agricultural Products, China Excellent Tourism City, National Sanitary City, National Greening Model City, National Garden City, National Experimental Area of Sustainable Development, National Demonstration Area of Ecological Protection and Construction, and Pilot County for the Transformation and Upgrading of the Scientific Development of County Economy in the Province, and many other honors.
In 2023, Longkou City's gross regional product will be 151.1 billion yuan, an increase of 7.6%.
