Laixi City, a county-level city under the jurisdiction of Shandong Province, administered by Qingdao City, is located in the central part of the Jiaodong Peninsula, northeast of Qingdao City, with a general topographic trend of high north and low south, low hills in the north, gently sloping plains in the center, and saucer-shaped depressions in the south, and a temperate monsoon continental climate within its territory, with distinctive changes in the four seasons and monsoon advances and retreats, with a total area of 1,568.2 square kilometers. As of October 2022, the city has eight towns and three streets. As of the end of 2021, the city had a resident population of 719,100. Laixi City is one of the counties and cities open to the outside world in the coastal area as determined by the State Council, and is the transportation hub of Jiaodong Peninsula, with the Qingrong Intercity Railway, Longqing Expressway and Tongsan Expressway running through the north and south of the city, and the Weilai Expressway, the Blue Smoke Railway and the Weilai High-speed Railway running through the east and west of the city, and there are 61 rivers in the city such as the Dagu River, the Xiaogu River, the Su River, etc., and the production of the Zhi Reservoir with the total capacity of 402 million cubic meters, and the Jiangshan Wetland with the total area of 25 square kilometers. The Dagu River runs through the whole territory of Laixi.In December 2019, it became a national pilot unit for the construction of rural governance system and a national pilot area for integrated urban and rural development (Jinan-Qingdao Area).On December 6, 2019, it was selected as a pilot unit for the whole county promotion of the quality of national farmers' cooperatives. In 2023, Laixi City realized a gross domestic product of 68.616 billion yuan, an increase of 4.6% over the previous year.
