Shizuishan, a prefecture-level city under the jurisdiction of the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, is located in the northernmost part of the autonomous region, bordered by the Ordos Plateau to the east and the northern part of the Yinchuan Plain to the west, with a typical temperate continental climate and a total area of 5,310 square kilometers. As of March 2023, the city has two districts and one county under its jurisdiction. As of the end of 2022, Shizuishan had a resident population of 751,800.
On November 23, 1975, the Yibei District was abolished and the city of Shizuishan was restored. Shizuishan City is named after the "mountain rocks protruding like a mouth" at the confluence of Helan Mountain and the Yellow River. It has a long history, with the Hunhuai Barrier set up during the Qin Dynasty, and the first administrative establishment, Lian County, set up during the Western Han Dynasty; this long history has created a thick cultural heritage, and nurtured the Helan Mountain petroglyphs, Ancient Great Wall, North Wudang Shoufo Temple, Pingluo Jade Emperor Pavilion, Tianzhou Pagoda and other humanistic monuments, with immigrant culture, Helan Mountain culture, industrial culture, such as B&B culture; geographic location is more advantageous, located in the Ningdong, Mengxi between the two national hundreds of billions of tons of coal field, is the Hubao Yinlan economic belt, Ningxia along the Yellow Economic Zone, Ningmon, Shaanxi, Urumchi, the Golden Triangle Economic Zone of the important nodes of the city; 100 kilometers away from Yinchuan Hedong Airport, the BaoLan Railway The Baolan Railway, Beijing-Tibet Highway, Uma Highway, 109 National Highway, 110 National Highway and so on run through the whole territory, which is listed as one of the national highway transportation hub cities and regional circulation node cities; the Yellow River passes through the east, and depends on Helan Mountain in the west, with lakes scattered all over the city. There are 5A-level tourist attractions such as Sand Lake and Xinghai Lake, a national water conservancy scenic spot, in the city.
In 2023, Shizuishan's gross regional product was 69.898 billion yuan, an increase of 3.8% over the previous year.
