Tonggu County, belonging to Yichun City, Jiangxi Province, is located in the border area of northwest Gan, upstream of Xiu River, neighboring Yifeng County in the southeast, Wanzai County in the south, Liuyang City and Pingjiang County in the west, and Xiushui County in the north. The terrain is wide in the west and narrow in the east, slightly triangular in shape. A total area of 1,552 square kilometers, under the jurisdiction of 6 towns, 3 townships, 4 ecological public welfare forest, of which the mountains accounted for more than 87%, the hilly basin accounted for 13%, with an elevation of more than 1,000 meters above the peaks of more than 20, is a typical mountainous areas in the south. It is a typical mountainous county with extensive land. As of the end of 2022, the registered population of Tonggu County was 136,770. Tonggu was the place of the outbreak of the Autumn Harvest Uprising and the seat of the Front Enemy Committee, and the Xiang-Egan Revolutionary Base once set up its military and governmental headquarter in Tonggu. Tonggu is one of the 43 pure Hakka counties in China, 70% of the population are Hakka, and it is the center of Hakka settlement in Northwest Gan. A variety of cultures converge and merge here, creating a long history of distinctive Hakka folk culture, such as mountain songs, food, and folk houses. Haoji Railway, Daqing-Guangzhou Expressway, Nanchang-Tonggu Expressway, Tonggu-Wanzai Expressway pass through the area.On October 9, 2020, it was awarded the title of the fourth batch of national ecological civilization construction demonstration cities and counties by the Ministry of Ecology and Environment. In 2022, Tonggu County accomplished a GDP of 7,038,740,000 yuan, an increase of 5.0% over 2021.
