Liangxi District, belongs to Wuxi City, Jiangsu Province. Located in the north-central part of Wuxi, it is the city center of Wuxi, with a jurisdiction of 71.5 square kilometers. As of October 2021, Liangxi District has nine streets under its jurisdiction, with the district people's government stationed at Chong'ansi Street. According to the seventh national census, as of 00:00 on November 1, 2020, the resident population of Liangxi District was 985,465 people.
Liangxi is named after Liangxi River. Liangxi was formerly known as Wuxi. The documented history of Liangxi dates back to the end of the Shang Dynasty (1046 BC). After many changes, in 1958, three districts, Chong'an District, Nanchang District and Beitang District, were established. in February 2016, Chong'an District, Nanchang District and Beitang District were abolished and Liangxi District was established by merging them. With 3,000 years of cultural history, Liangxi is an area integrating Wu culture, Jiangnan water culture, and industrial and commercial culture. Liangxi District is Wuxi's traditional trade center and financial center, and is the birthplace of Wuxi's industry and commerce.
In 2020, Liangxi District will accomplish a GDP of 137.26 billion yuan, the added value of the tertiary industry will exceed the 100 billion mark, and the total revenue from finance and tax will exceed 10 billion.
