Qidong City, county-level city under the jurisdiction of Jiangsu Province, administered by Nantong City, is located in East China, the southeast end of Jiangsu Province, the Yangtze River estuary on the north coast, with a total area of 1,208 square kilometers. It belongs to the northern subtropical humid climate zone, and is the earliest place of sunrise in Jiangsu Province. As of the end of 2022, Qidong City has a resident population of 957,000; it has nine towns under its jurisdiction, and another nine township-level units, with the municipal government stationed in Huilong Town.
In 1928, Qidong County was established in Chongming County with the meaning of "Qigu East Border", and in 1989, Qidong County was abolished and Qidong City was established at county level. Qidong City is a national open port, China's hometown of architecture, national health city, national garden city, national civilized city, national ecological demonstration area. Shanghai-Shaanxi Expressway, Haiqi Expressway, Qiyang Expressway, Ningqi Railway and Yanglv Railway run through the city. Attractions in the city include Yuantuojiao Scenic Spot, Golden Beach, Fayin Temple and so on.
In 2022, Qidong City will realize a gross regional product of 139.114 billion yuan, an increase of 2.2% over the previous year.
