Dongning City, is a county-level city under the jurisdiction of Heilongjiang Province and the administration of Mudanjiang City. Located in the southeastern part of Heilongjiang Province, bordering with Russia to the east, the border is 179 kilometers long, and bordering with Yanbian Korean Autonomous Prefecture, Jilin Province, Wangqing County, Yanbian Korean Autonomous Prefecture, Hunchun City, is an important transportation hub on the Northeast Asia International Corridor. It is a national first-class land port. Dongning was set up in the late Qing Dynasty, and in December 2015, Dongning was abolished as a county and set up as a city. Dongning city has a total area of 7,139 square kilometers, the landscape is "nine mountains and half water and half field" characteristics, jurisdiction over 6 towns, population 21.0 million (2014). The climate is temperate continental monsoon, and in 2014, the GDP of Dongning City (then known as Dongning County) amounted to 1,521,368,000 yuan.
