Shuangyashan, part of Heilongjiang Province, is located in northeastern Heilongjiang Province, across the Ussuri River from Russia, and adjacent to the cities of Jiamusi, Qitaihe, and Jixi. As of 2014, Shuangyashan City has four municipal districts and four counties under its jurisdiction, with an area of 22,483 square kilometers and a population of 1.51 million (2010). Historically, Shuangyashan City was once the ancient capital of the Kingdom of Yilou, about 7,000 years ago. Shuangyashan is an important coal mining base in China, and the Shuangyashan Coal Mine is one of China's ten mega-coal mines, with the largest coal reserves in Heilongjiang Province.In 2013, the gross national product (GNP) was 57 billion yuan.
