Qitaihe (pinyin: qī tái hé) is bordered by Jixi City and Mudanjiang City in the south, Jiamusi City and Hegang City in the north, Shuangyashan City in the east, and Harbin City in the west, surrounded by 13 counties and 7 state farms, with convenient railroad transportation. Qitaihe was developed and constructed in 1958 and was promoted to a provincial municipality in 1983. Qitaihe is one of the three largest protected mining coal fields in China, and is an emerging city dominated by coal and wood processing industries.
